About the Event

Learning Outcomes / Worshop Objectives

· Revision of the GIT including types of abdominal surgery leading to stoma formation.

· Review the types of stoma and position on the abdomen

· Provide an overview of basic stoma care provision and troubleshooting some common problems encountered

· Discuss prescribing guidelines for stoma appliances and accessories

· Identify medications commonly used in stoma care and when to prescribe

Course Content

· Anatomy and Physiology of the gastrointestinal tract

· Types of stoma

· Surgical procedures

· Appliance types and selection including accessories

· Basic stoma care provision

· Prescribing guidelines and common problems/identifiers for over ordering

· Discussion around medications used in stoma/bowel care
